A few months ago I got a call from Canadian magazine Words and Music to shoot their countryman Dallas Green who was playing a show at the Park West here in Chicago. I didn't hesitate to up my cred as an international photographer, and I've been a fan of City and Colour for a while, so of course I said "Hell yes!". Only had Dallas for about 20 minutes, but we got some great material. Also got to check out his show that night too. FOR FREE!!! Just one of the perks of being an international photographer I guess. All around win for team Castle.

Droga Does Good!

It was just announced that Droga 5 has scooped the Outdoor Grand Prix at Cannes with its work with Microsoft Bing on Jay-Z's memoir Decoded. I was very lucky to be able to shoot most of the Chicago segments of this campaign. And now.... Cannes!!! Well done guys.

Studio 101 opening a success!

Me, Brian, Samer, and Bucks Boys had our opening at our new space, Studio 101 and it couldn't have gone any better! So many great people came, and we really made a night of it. Taylor Scott Dunfee killed it with his art and MONSTER chalk mural, everyone was digging it! Special thanks to Big Delicious Planet, Pabst Brewing Co., Half Acre Brewery, Ground Lift, Monica Zaffarano, and everyone who helped make this thing a blast!

I have recently moved from the comforts of the North side of Chicago into a century old artist loft on the South side of the city. Wow, quite a change! I'm sharing the space with my good friends Brian Kuhlmann, Jon Becker of Bucks Boys, and Samer Almadani. We have dubbed this dubious establishment Studio 101. This space is truly amazing and a breath of fresh air for me personally. I'm looking forward to all the new work to come from here and the great partnerships that will ensue. If you have a moment, check out the site.

In addition to a fabulous creative space, we are also located in the Chicago Art District. East Pilsen is home to variety of wonderful galleries and a fantastic art scene which we are proud to be taking part in. We will be hosting a variety of artists work in the following months and participating in 2nd Firdays. For those who are unfamiliar, 2nd Fridays is a Pilsen neighborhood event in which a large amount of galleries open on the 2nd Friday of every month. It is a great event and definitely worth checking out.

This has been an assignment I've wanted for the past few years, and I finally had the chance to work on it. Art director Jennifer Moore created an amazing layout for the photographs, and every person I shot was an absolute treat. Each and everyone of these people are doing amazing things to help Chicago be on the forefront of sustainability. On newsstands now!

Meet Adam Levin. A chicago author who recently wrote a novel entitled The Instructions, to be published by the awesome and independent McSweeney's.

Adam started writing the book 9 frickin years ago, and finally finished up this past year. Well, it is over 1,000 pages so I guess he has a good excuse.

Adam was great to photograph. We had lots to talk about, and he warmed up to the camera pretty quick. He was a little nervous to take off his glasses at first, but I think he made the right choice.

Few weeks ago TOC had me shoot this cover for them. Worked with my old buddy Conor and had him get his awkward on one last time. As always, he didn't disappoint.

Great day of shooting! On beautiful Montrose beach, cart full of popsicles, time to play frisbee, and no hassle about permits. Overall, a success!

Teamed up with my friend and art director Andy Kohman to create imagery that will set the tone for her first album release. Just wrapped up an insane and awesome shoot for Chicago's Navy Pier. I worked with Ryan Bloecker at Two x Four to create these very fun and unique images for Navy Pier's new marketing campaign. We shot our people in the studio, and then spent a few action packed days at Navy Pier photographing background images. Fred at Paradigm Color Studio did an amazing job merging the two and creating 2 awesome ads. Please take a look at the behind the scenes slide show to see how fun this whole experience really was. Oh, and I had a Segway in my possession. never thought I'd say that.

New work for Time Out Chicago: TOC Eat Out Awards

I had an absolute blast shooting this piece for TOC! I collaborated with my good friend Ryan Van Ert, and together we came up with the zombie burger concept for an article about the Chicago Gluttons. These guys run an amazing and quite hilarious food blog, that you should definitely check out. They pledged to eat a White Castle slider for every vote they received. Well boys, you got over 800. Have fun with that!

Fred, at Paradigm did the post work, and all said and done, I think the whole thing was a great success!

Diveheart is a charity organization started by Jim Elliott that teaches SCUBA to any person with a disability. This was an awe inspiring shoot, and a truly great time. Jim has poored has poured his heart and soul into this organization, and I feel fortunate to have been able to see all the great things Diveheart does for people. Anyone who has lived in the Chicago area for the last 3 decades can probably understand the excitement I had when I was asked to photograph Bob Rohrman, a car dealership legend of sorts. If you are not familiar, check this out.

Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. Super fun shoot, and I love the way the images came out. Can't wait to buy a Lexus from Bob-O!
